The Best Secluded Cornish Beaches

Category: Beaches

We are all after that perfect beach… pristine water, perfect sand, cliffs stretching overhead as you scrunch your toes in the sand and lie back and think of nothing. But all too often these days just next to you is the sound of a child crying, the smell of beer and barbecues, a dog running over and taking its business just in front of your beach towel. Ah. Cornwall in Summer. It is the best but some of the beaches here can also be crowded from places with people from all over, places like Leeds, Manchester, Coventry, or  Devon!

The quest for peace and quiet has become harder and harder, and with some scorching summers behind us, it seems that more people are on their way to this lovely spot of the world. And renowned beach-side towns on the North Coast especially can be heaving in the Summer when Cornwall’s population doubles and tourists come to enjoy their own favourite areas of the county.

And it seems, the Whitsand Bay peninsula is on the up. For those keen to escape the crowds, little-known beaches such as those found in Portwrinkle and Tregantle, this so-called “forgotten corner of Cornwall” offers breathtaking views and a tranquillity that is hard to find these days.

With popular beaches such as Sennen, Marazion, Porthleven, Watergate Bay, and of course Fistral Beach seeing more and more visitors every year, South East Cornwall boasts a more unique, untainted charm to well-known spots further into Cornwall. Visitors here are stunned by the area’s natural beauty and quiet beaches. Quite often in Summer one can hit the beach at Tregantle and walk all along the coast when the tide is out, with few visitors and miles of beautiful sandy beaches and rugged cliffs.

For those looking for peace and quiet spots close to small villages like Portwrinkle and Crafthole have struck gold with beaches such as Blackyball, Harbour Beach and Freathy. These beaches see a few locals and some tourists but offer far more peace and quiet and see the same faces returning to experience the relaxation by these less touristy spots. Geddon South East Cornwall!
